Activity Connection Internship (High School & College Levels Available):
CSH Activity Connection Interns will gain exposure to working in social and recreational settings with children and young adults with special healthcare needs and developmental delays, physical disabilities, and neurological conditions. Interns spend 40% of their hours in programs with youth, and 60% in the office, assisting with coordination, clerical work and data entry, research assistance, event planning, marketing, and volunteer recruitment. Interns will focus on goals surrounding leadership development, comfort working with children with special healthcare needs, and strengthen organizational and clerical skills in a professional environment.
Eligibility for this position includes:
- Current high school junior or higher, OR currently enrolled in an undergraduate program studying recreation, special education, or related health profession; communication and marketing majors are also encouraged to apply.
- Recent graduates are also encouraged to apply.
- Availability for a minimum of 45 hours of internship time during a semester (typically a 7-10 week internship, including two 3-hour shifts per week).
- Comfort with Microsoft Office Suite.
- This position is based out of the Mountainside location.
- Afternoon and evening hours are required, and weekend hours are available and encouraged.

Recreational Therapy Practicum:
Recreational Therapy Practicum students have the opportunity to work with children in our community recreation programs. These programs are provided to children with disabilities or medical conditions that live at home and visit our facility for services. Practicum hours for fall and spring semesters are offered only in our Mountainside locations. Locations vary in the summer during camp season. Some opportunities for additional exposure in our inpatient rehabilitation and long term care facilities may be available. This practicum is offered only to students receiving credit and currently enrolled in Therapeutic Recreation/Recreational Therapy graduate or undergraduate degree programs.
Fall and spring semester practicum students are expected to complete their practicum over the course of a minimum 7 week period. Summer practicum students have the opportunity to complete their practicum at Pal’s Paradise Day Camp, Camp BECOME, or Camp Chatterbox. Our summer camp practicum students are required to have prior experience working with children with disabilities, and camp experience is preferred.

Childhood Injury Prevention Internship:
Childhood Injury Prevention Interns will work with the coordinators of Union County Safe Kids Coalition, whose lead organization is Children’s Specialized Hospital. Interns will learn about safety in the home, in and around cars, and at play. Interns will complete a special project in a safety area covered by Safe Kids Worldwide, and support safety initiatives and community events.
Eligibility for this position includes:
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate program studying public health, nursing, or a related program.
- Availability for a minimum of 30 hours of internship time during a semester.
- Comfort with Microsoft Office Suite.
- This position is based out of the Mountainside location.
- Afternoon and evening hours are preferred, and availability to attend at least 1 community event on a weekend or evening.
