PREPARE FOR CLASS

ESPANOL

SUBMIT YOUR HEALTH FORM
An updated health form must be submitted by mail one time per year. Please check your paperwork for the last time your child’s physician signed our health form. You may download the health form from our page in the “Forms & Documents” section, or see attached. If your form is not received within 2 weeks after registering for our program your child will be removed from the roster.

PARK & ENTER
Mountainside: Park & enter at the East Entrance/Ambulance (drive straight to back of parking lot and enter on side, instead of staying left and going up hill).  Do not enter through the main lobby as those doors will lock after class.

New Brunswick: You may find street parking or park in our parking deck on Plum Street. There is a fee for the parking garage of $2.00 for up to 1 hour or $4.00 for up to 2 hours.  * Please note that you must pay before returning to your vehicle at the pay stations located in the main lobby of the parking garage. Enter the hospital in our main lobby and take the elevator or stairs down to the pool on the ground level.

THE THERAPEUTIC ENVIRONMENT
We aim to provide the most therapeutic learning environment possible for all children in our program. We ask that any parents, visitors, and other children help us keep the pool area as quiet as possible. All voices and noises echo loudly in our pool area and make it very noisy. Since our children are very prone to distraction and overstimulation, any noises on the pool deck could prevent children from learning properly. Please take advantage of our hallways and waiting areas to socialize with other families and relax. No talking on cell phones or playing video games/music/videos is permitted poolside. The poolside chairs are for observation only. Any visitors causing a distraction to the class will be asked to step into the hallway or waiting area.

WATER SAFETY & SUPERVISION
Please provide close visual supervision to your child before and after class. No child is permitted on the pool deck without parent supervision. Any visiting child not enrolled in the swim program must be under close supervision at all times and are not permitted in or near the pool water. For safety reason our staff hold the right to ask families to leave the pool area if children are not being closely supervised. Please also note that the floors may become slippery so please walk and hold your child’s hand as much as possible to prevent falls and injury. No running is permitted on the pool deck. Please ask us for more information on how to keep your children safe around water!

WHEN TO ARRIVE
If you need to change your child you may enter the changing area near the pool 10 minutes prior to your class start time, and kindly wait in the hallway until your class start time. Please do not enter the pool area earlier than this time as you will disrupt classes in session.

WHAT TO BRING
A bathing suit and towel. If your child wears swim diapers, we highly recommend wearing rubber swim pants over swim diapers. Please leave ALL food and drinks at home. No food or beverages are allowed in the pool or changing areas.

WHO WILL HELP MY CHILD
Your child’s class will have 1 instructor and an assistant leading the class. A volunteer will provide 1:1 assistance to your child in the class. If a volunteer is not available to assist your child in the pool you will be requested to join the class in the water if you agreed on your health form.

INSTRUCTOR QUESTIONS
We love to hear feedback from you! If you have questions, concerns, thoughts, and suggestions about how to help us better serve you and your child please let us know! Please feel welcome to contact our staff via email or phone if you would like to speak with your child’s instructor at length. They will be happy to answer your questions and concerns at the most ideal time and will try their best to have in-person conversations with you. Although we try our best it is often difficult to answer all of your questions and concerns during or immediately after class.

REASONS NOT TO ATTEND
Read and adhere to the list of contraindications (reasons to not attend class) under the “Forms & Documents” tab to the left.

WHAT IF WE MISS CLASS
Refunds are not available up to 1 week before the start of each session. Refunds and make-ups are not available for class absences. In the event that a class is cancelled by the hospital you will be notified by phone and/or email & your class will be rescheduled. Registration refunds are not available after 1 week before classes start.

PHOTOS
You are welcome to take pictures of your child during classes. Please be mindful to take photos of your child only & ask permission for photos of other children. Children’s Specialized Hospital will not use any photos/videos of your child for marketing purposes unless you agree on in your child’s profile.
